Here are some insights into how our Community Groups function at Crossroads…
The nuts & bolts of It all…
Community Groups are made up of 8 - 12 adults and are led by a group leader(s).
Groups are typically made up of adults from all seasons of life such as young marrieds, singles, empty-nesters, and older adults.
We find that our mixed-aged groups are the most impactful to those that participate!
Groups meet in homes, with most groups meeting 3 weeks in a row and then taking one week off. Groups determine which day and time they will gather together.
The most common format for a Community Group is…
30 minutes for social time and snacks (We always eat in Community Groups!)
60 minutes for the study
30 minutes for prayer
Groups are encouraged to change things up to keep things fresh and fun!
You’ve got questions…we’ve got answers!
here are some Common Questions people often have
What do groups study? Each new Community Group starts with a 4-week introduction study called “Community”. After that, groups engage in a variety of Bible studies that range from books in the Bible, marriage, finance, parenting and more!
How long do Community Groups stay together? They meet for a minimum of 1 year to a maximum of 2 years which the group determines!
Do groups do anything fun together? Absolutely! Matter of fact, groups are encouraged to do lots of things socially! Groups often get together outside of normal gathering times for game nights, date nights, cookouts and shopping trips for ministry related service projects! Often times it’s the social events that really help the group develop relationships the quickest!
Who leads Community Groups? Our groups are led by people who love Jesus and want to invest into the lives of others through a small group environment!
Do Community Groups serve together? Yes they do! Every group is expected to find ways throughout the year to serve within the church and in our community. Some of these serve opportunities include church events, food drives and neighborhood projects!
Can my children come to group with me? Community is about family…the whole family! However, sometimes space is limited in the homes where groups meet, so every group individually decides how they include children. Group leaders, whenever possible, look for ways to include the kids during group time, at social group activities and service projects.
What if the home where my group is meeting doesn’t have room for my kids to attend? If you’re not able to bring your kids with you to group and need to find a babysitter for them, then Crossroads is here to help! We value our Community Groups so much that we have a reimbursement program to help you pay for childcare while you’re at group! Learn more about that by CLICKING HERE.
How do groups pick what they will study? Great question! After the initial 4-week study titled, “Community”, the group will then work together to come up with ideas on the next study. Study topics often include but are not limited to specific books of the Bible, marriage, parenting, finance, and Christian living. Groups often find great content through RightNowMedia. All studies are biblical based and centered on God’s Word.
What happens when the group comes to the end of their 1 year or 2 year commitment? Our goal with every group is to birth a new Community Group out of an existing group, a process we call multiplication.
Why multiply your Community Groups? First, it’s the natural way of things…healthy things grow and multiply. Second, by multiplying Community Groups it helps create space for more people to join a group. Third, it reminds our groups to focus outward, thinking of others they would like to invite to join a group with them. Fourth, it broadens group members’ core group of relationships when their group multiplies and they join a new group. Finally, it helps us discover new Community Group Leaders! We believe the best Community Group leaders come out of existing groups.
